Overview

Chateau C8 is a beautiful 17th century chartreuse set in a tranquil wooded valley of some 184 acres in the heart of the Dordogne in the South West of France. The house which can accommodate up to 26 guests in three separate buildings has extensive gardens, a swimming pool and a large lake (200 x 100 m)

Considered locally to be one of the most important buildings of its kind in the Dordogne region the house has recently been returned to its former glory with many original features, including stone and marble fire surrounds and elegant wall panelling. The chartreuse dates back to around 1680 and was originally built as a gentleman's hunting lodge. Owned in 1701 by Le Marquis de Fleurac, Seigneur de Rouffignac, it became an ironmaster's workshop around 1730 and at one time was manufacturing cannon for Napoleon's army. The lake is a reservoir created to provide the ironworks with a reliable reserve of water.By the end of the 19th Century the building had ceased to manufacture iron.
